As per the tradition of last more than a hundred years, Ramakrishna Mission (which was established in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda to give practical shape to the teaching of his Guru – Shree Ramakrishna Paramahansa of “worshipping the divine through service to humanity”) has started relief work for the flood affected people of Vadodara and Surat from 8th August 2006. 32,235 dry food packets(weighing 7451 kg) containing ganthia, bundi, biscuits etc. and 26,500 pouches of drinking water have been supplied to the District Administration for being air dropped through the helicopter among flood affected people of Surat. 4450 dry food packets (weighing 670kg) containing ganthia, bundi, biscuits etc. have been distributed among flood affected people of villages Kalali, Akota, Jetalpur etc. 1,200 kits(containing 10 kg. Wheat flour, 5 kg. Rice, 2kg. Dal, 1kg. Sugar, 1kg. Salt, 100gm. Turmeric powder, 100gm Chilly powder, 1kg. Oil & 250gm. Tea power) of food grains have been distributed among flood affected people of Kalali, Talsat, Virpur, Metad, Hanspur, Kothwada, Mahamadpura, Muval, Masar, Pawda, Navapura, Sandhi, Pindapa, Shera, Sultanpura, Danoli and Thekaraia Mubarak of Vadodara district
